SELLING / CONSIGNMENT

Watch consignment fees in Canada: model what you actually keep

The commission percentage is only one part of consignment economics; preparation, insurance, returns, timing and payout terms can change the owner net.

01

Start with the expected transaction price

A low fee applied to an unrealistic listing price is not a better outcome. Ask how the consignee sets price, handles offers and reports market feedback.

02

List every deduction

Commission, servicing, refinishing, photography, shipping, insurance, payment processing, currency conversion and return handling may be included or charged separately.

03

Understand custody and insurance

Confirm when risk transfers, who insures the watch, the coverage limit, exclusions, storage standard and what happens after damage, loss or a buyer return.

04

Read timing and exit rights

Document the minimum term, price-reduction authority, owner withdrawal process, unsold return costs and payout timing after a completed sale.

05

Compare with direct sale and private execution

A direct offer trades potential proceeds for speed and certainty. A private sale may improve the gross number while returning disclosure, security, shipping and counterparty work to the owner.
