The model subtracts the resale value you enter. Reference presets use a dated guide low for orientation, not a promise that a future buyer will pay it.

OWNERSHIP COST QUESTIONS

Before the
monthly number wins.

What is the true cost of owning a watch?+

This calculator defines net ownership cost as purchase price, estimated tax, acquisition costs, annual holding costs and service reserve, minus the resale value you enter. It does not include financing or opportunity cost.

Does the calculator predict what my watch will be worth?+

No. Expected resale value is an editable scenario input. The reference presets use the low end of a dated editorial guide range, but that is not a forecast, appraisal or guaranteed exit price.

Why include a service reserve?+

A reserve keeps foreseeable maintenance friction inside the buying decision. The preset is only a planning allowance; actual service scope, timing and cost depend on the watch and provider.

What if the model shows a negative ownership cost?+

That means your resale input exceeds the modeled total cash outlay. The result is flagged as an input warning, not presented as appreciation, profit or an expected investment return.

Can I use the result for tax or investment decisions?+

No. Tax treatment varies by jurisdiction and circumstances. This free tool is a purchase-planning model, not tax, legal, investment, appraisal or authentication advice.
